  4. After you’re satisfied with the preview of the course tile, click Save to publish the course to your dashboard.

  1. Enter the course in which you would like to add a new lab.
  2. Click the “Add a New Lab Button” at the bottom of the page.
  3. Enter the Lab Name and Description in the two textboxes.
  4. Click “Save” to add the new lab to the course.

+ How do I import steps from a Word Document?

  1. Start by clicking import on the right hand side of the webpage.
  2. Click “Choose File” and locate the file you would like to import from.
  3. Click “Open” to select the document. Click “Import” to import the selected document. The content of the document will now be accessible on the LabMS webpage.
  4. Click on the content to make the selection box appear.
  5. Adjust the height of the selection box to ensure that all of the content to be imported is surrounded by the box.
  6. Click the checkmark on the top of the selection box to import the selected content as a step into LabMS. The selected content will now have been imported as the last step of your lab.

+ How do I import steps from another Lab?

  1. Start by clicking import on the right hand side of the webpage.
  2. Click the “From another Lab” tab at the top of the page.
  3. Select the Course and then the lab which contains the step you want to import.
  4. Click “Import” to import the selected lab. The steps of the selected lab will now be accessible on the LabMS webpage.
  5. Select the step that you would like to import by clicking on it. The selected step will now have been imported as the last step of your lab.

+ How do I change the order of steps?

  1. Select the step that you want to re-order from the steps overview column on the right side of the webpage.
  2. Simply drag the selected step to the gray bar between the two steps within which you would like to add the selected step. The step will now appear between the two steps and will be numbered accordingly.

+ How do I make an existing step into a sub-step?

  1. Select the step that you want to re-order from the steps overview column on the right side of the webpage.
  2. Simply drag the selected step to into another step in the steps overview column on the right side of the webpage. The step will now appear after the main step and will be numbered as a sub-step.

+ How do I add a pre-requisite/advancement requirement?

A student must complete an advancement requirement must complete before moving onto the next step while a pre-requisite must be completed prior to viewing the step. To add either a prerequisite or advancement requirement:

  1. Click on the Step where you would like to add a pre-requisite or advancement requirement.
  2. Click the Advanced button, which will open up a menu of options you can enable simply by clicking the checkboxes beside them.

+ How do I add inline assessments to a Lab?

There are four types of questions that can be implemented: multiple choice questions, long answers, short answers and table-type questions. The procedure to add the inline assessment varies by type. The student responses to the multiple choice and the short answer questions can be graded by LabMS. All of the questions can be assigned weighting, which LabMS will factor into calculating the students grades on the labs.

  1. Click “Add item” in the step where you would like to add an inline assessment.

  2. Use the drop-down menu and select inline assessment as the item type.

Short Answer

  1. Select short answer as the question type.
  2. Write the question in the question textbox.
  3. Provide the correct answer in the answer textbox.
  4. Click “Done” to add the short answer to the step.

Long Answer

  1. Select long answer as the question type.
  2. Write the question in the question textbox.
  3. Click “Done” to add the long answer to the step.

Multiple Choice

  1. Select multiple choice as the question type.
  2. Write the question in the question textbox.
  3. Use the “number of answer options” dropdown menu to indicate how many options you need. The multiple choice questions allows up to 10 correct answer choices.
  4. Write the options in the “Options” column and use the “Correct Option” column to indicate the right response(s) to the question.
  5. Click “Done” to add the multiple choice to the step.

Table-Type Questions

  1. Select table as the question type.
  2. Write the question in the question textbox.
  3. Then click on either of the two cells in the last row to enable the customization buttons.
  4. Customize the table by using the buttons below the table to customize the table and add by adding headers to the columns and rows.
  5. Click “Done” to add the table to the step.

+ How do I add JIT Help?

  1. Click on the item where you would like to add JIT Help.
  2. Click on the “Just in Time Help” button and write the text or upload the multimedia that you would like to appear as help for the item.
  3. Use the Time Options to add a time limit on the availability of JIT for students. To do this, click on the checkbox beside “Set a timer” and provide time duration in the space provided.
    • If the JIT help is added to an inline assessment, you also have the option of restricting the students to accessing the JIT only after they have answered the inline assessment. Enable this by selecting “Show only if the question is answered” in the Time Options.
  4. Click “Done” to add the JIT help and update the step.

+ How do I add images to a step?

  1. Click “Add item” in the step where you would like to add the image. Use the drop-down menu and select content as the item type.
    • You can also add multimedia to an existing step. To do this, hover over the step name and click on the “Edit Step” icon.
  2. Click on the image icon.
  3. Upload the picture.
    • From a URL: Under the "Image Info" tab, copy the link in the URL textbox and then click ok. You can also click “Browse Server” to access an image you have already uploaded on the server.
    • From your computer: You can also use the “Upload” tab to upload a picture from your computer. Simply choose a file and click “Send it to the server.” Then click ok to add the picture to the step.
  4. Click “Done” to add the image and update the step.

+ How do I embed a video from my computer into a Lab?

  1. Click “Add item” in the step where you would like to add the video. Use the drop-down menu and select content as the item type.
    • You can also add multimedia to an existing step. To do this, hover over the step name and click on the “Edit Step” icon.
  2. To upload a video from your computer, click on the Cross Arrow cursor button.
  3. Drag the video into the “Drop files to Upload” box.
  4. Click “Done” to add the video and update the step.

+ How do I embed a YouTube video into a Lab?

  1. Click “Add item” in the step where you would like to add the video. Use the drop-down menu and select content as the item type.
    • You can also add multimedia to an existing step. To do this, hover over the step name and click on the “Edit Step” icon.
  2. On the YouTube video webpage, click share at the bottom of the video. Then click embed, and copy the highlighted code.
  3. On the LabMS webpage, create a new content item or click on an existing item and click the Source button and paste the code in the textbox.
    • You can adjust the width and the height by changing the numbers following the “width” and “height” text in the code.
  4. Click the Source button again to preview how the video looks in the step. When you are satisfied, click “Done” to add the video and update the step.

+ How are you addressing the privacy laws (PIPEDA - Canada and/or FERPA - USA)?

If your organization has a Privacy Policy/Statement, please upload this in the instructor view, so that students will ‘accept’ this privacy policy when they first log in to the tool. For people using the website, there is also a Privacy Statement.
